What is a Copper Stopper? A Copper Stopper is just a little card, but it can do a lot. The card is designed to give notice to the police that you wish to protect your rights. The card says:
NOTICE TO OFFICERHow do I use the card?I feel that I am not free to leave. Our Supreme Court determined in People v. Boyer, 48 Cal.3d 247 that this means I am under arrest. If I am wrong, inform me immediately, and I will leave. If I am under arrest, please, immediately inform me both verbally and in writing the reason for my arrest.
Per PC §1054.1(c) this document is evidence. If you insist on detaining me, please, preserve this evidence for my hearing. I also request that you preserve originals of all notes and other evidence collected during your investigation.
If you seize any bodily fluids from me, I request that you preserve a sample large enough for me to have an independent laboratory conduct testing on the sample.
Please, make arrangements for me to call attorney George A. Boyle at (661)FAST-HELP or (661)327-8435
I do not consent to any searches of any kind. I specifically refer you to Bond v United States, U.S., 146 L. Ed.2d 365 and remind you that personal items may not even be squeezed or manipulated without a warrant.
I may be a foreign national. If you detain me, please, notify my consulate per Penal Code Section §834c.
I have chosen to exercise my right to remain silent, please, ask me no further questions. If I decide to waive this right, I will only do so in writing.

416 Truxtun Ave., Bakersfield, CA 93301 (661)Fast-HelpThe card is not meant for every encounter with the police. Most officers are polite, honest, courteous and respect your rights. This card is meant for the few who are not. If you feel an officer is not respecting your rights (or has placed you under arrest), just hand him the card, then keep quiet until you talk to an attorney.
